Iceland campsites for campervans, region by region.
Wild camping in a vehicle is illegal in Iceland, so the campsite list is the trip plan. Seasons, facilities and campervan rules below come from each campsite's own published pages.

How this guide works
Documented facts, linked sources, no filler.
Each campsite below links to the page we checked — its own website, visiticeland.com, or a national-park or municipal page. Where a campsite doesn't publish its season or facilities, the cell stays empty instead of guessing. Sites our 7-day and 10-day itineraries overnight at are marked.
Prices are deliberately absent: Icelandic campsites charge per person and change rates season to season, so a printed number would rot. The source link always has the current one.

Campsites are half the plan
Now string them into a route.

Campsite details were checked against the linked sources on the dates shown and can change — always confirm season and facilities on the campsite's own page before relying on them. The campervan search link is an affiliate link; we may earn a commission if you book after clicking.
Frequently asked questions
Can I wild camp in a campervan in Iceland?
No. Since 2015, Icelandic law requires campervans, motorhomes and any vehicle you sleep in to overnight at registered campsites or with the landowner's explicit permission. Pull-off overnighting on the Ring Road risks fines — plan each night around a campsite, which is exactly what this guide and our itineraries are for.
Do Iceland campsites need to be booked in advance?
Usually not for individual campervans — most Icelandic campsites work first-come, including popular ones like Skaftafell. In July and August, arrive by early evening at the famous sites. A few privately run campsites accept reservations; where a campsite's own page says so, we note it.
How much does camping in Iceland cost?
Most campsites charge per person per night, and prices change season to season — so we link each campsite's own page instead of printing numbers that may be stale. As a budgeting input, our cost calculator uses a per-person baseline you can adjust.
Which campsites are open outside summer?
A minority — most Icelandic campsites open from roughly mid-May to mid-September. Where a campsite states its season, this guide shows it; year-round sites like Reykjavík's and Skaftafell's are the exceptions worth knowing about.
Do campsites have electricity for campervans?
Many, not all — and hookups can be limited even where they exist. The facilities column shows electricity only where the campsite's own page documents it. If a night's charging matters (heater, fridge, devices), confirm on the campsite's page before relying on it.
