Iceland Routes helps first-time couples plan a seven-to-ten-day summer Ring Road campervan trip. Every price, inclusion and opening date is taken from primary or operator sources and carries a visible verification date — and where we haven't verified something first-hand, we say so instead of implying we have.
The story
Built out of a folder of contradictory tabs.
Iceland Routes started the way most Iceland trips do: with thirty open tabs that disagreed with each other. One site swore a campervan costs €89 a day — undated. Another ranked "the 12 best rentals" and was owned by one of them. A forum thread said the Highlands open in June; the road authority's own table showed that some years, some of them don't.
So we built the site nobody else had: no invented prices, no pretend test-drives, no ranking that quietly rewards whoever pays the highest commission. Just the rental companies' own published terms, the road authority's own opening dates and Iceland's own fuel prices — collected in one place, with a visible verification date on every claim.
That discipline costs us something. Our price column says "quote required" where other sites print a number they made up. We tell you when a claim is desk-checked rather than driven. We think that is exactly why you can use this site to spend your own money.
No invented availability
A booking price stays ‘Quote required’ until dates and a vehicle are entered. Missing inputs make a calculator total unavailable rather than silently becoming zero.
A small editorial shortlist
Companies are ordered by documented couple fit, included equipment, insurance clarity and visible limitations. The list does not pretend to cover the whole market.
Commercial status stays separate
Affiliate status does not alter the ranking. Northbound is currently our only active affiliate partner; a booking made through it may earn us a commission at no extra cost to you. Every other company link opens the company directly.
Update policy
Recheck what can change.
Fuel, exchange rates, road charges, tolls, company terms and road information are rechecked against primary sources — company booking pages, road.is and umferdin.is — and each page displays its last verification date. A date is evidence of the check, not a promise that the value is still current when you travel.
If a number here no longer matches the operator's own page, trust the operator's page — and tell us at office@icelandroutes.com. Verified corrections are applied and the page's verification date is bumped.
Who we are
Independent, and paid only in daylight.
Iceland Routes is a small independent research team. Nobody here rents out vans, sells insurance or runs tours — which is rarer in this search result than it should be. The site earns money in exactly one way: when a reader books through a clearly labelled partner link. Rankings are locked before any partnership exists and never move because of one.
